The use of European funds by Poland, European security and the protection of the EU’s external borders were the key focus of a mission by the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets, which included MEP Michalis Hadjipantela (DISY–EPP).
The delegation visited Warsaw and the city of Rzeszów, near the Ukrainian border, to assess how EU funding is being used in strategic areas such as security, infrastructure, innovation, regional development and the defence industry.
During the visit, the delegation held meetings with senior Polish officials, including Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski and Finance Minister Andrzej Domański, and also visited the headquarters of Frontex.
Hadjipantela also visited the Medevac Hub Jasionka, an EU‑funded facility supporting medical evacuations, as well as Rzeszów–Jasionka Airport, a key hub for humanitarian and strategic assistance to Ukraine.
Further visits included the Podkarpackie Innovation Centre and facilities of Pratt & Whitney Poland, where the role of European investment in innovation, aerospace technology and strengthening Europe’s strategic autonomy and resilience was highlighted.
Through Hadjipantela’s participation in the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets, Cyprus maintains an active role in discussions on European security, border protection and EU funding policy.
Following the mission, Hadjipantela said: “Europe is facing major geopolitical challenges that require unity, strategic planning and effective use of European resources.”
