The New Cypriot Parliament: Who’s Who for DIKO

The party’s eight-member delegation includes its leader, experienced MPs and representatives from all six districts.

 

DIKO enters the new House of Representatives with eight MPs, maintaining representation across all six districts after an election that changed the balance of forces in parliament.

Its parliamentary team includes party leader Nicolas Papadopoulos, long-serving lawmakers, legal professionals, figures with experience in education and public administration, and one newly elected representative for Kyrenia.

Here is a closer look at the MPs elected with DIKO and the backgrounds they bring to the new House.

Nicosia

Nicolas Papadopoulos

Nicolas Papadopoulos is the president of DIKO and a long-serving MP for Nicosia. Born in Nicosia in 1973, he studied law at University College London and is a barrister by training. During his studies, he was active in student politics in the United Kingdom. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2006 and has led DIKO’s parliamentary group since 2013. Papadopoulos has also served in senior parliamentary roles, including on the Finance Committee, and remains one of the most recognisable figures in the political centre.

Christiana Erotokritou

Christiana Erotokritou is a DIKO MP for Nicosia and a lawyer by profession. Born in Nicosia in 1973, she studied law at the University of Wolverhampton and qualified as a barrister at Lincoln’s Inn in London. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2016 and was re-elected in 2021 and 2026. Erotokritou has served as DIKO parliamentary spokesperson and has held senior parliamentary responsibilities, including work on financial, legal and European affairs. She is also one of the party’s most prominent female figures in parliament.

Chrysis Pantelides

Chrysis Pantelides is a returning DIKO MP for Nicosia. Born in Famagusta in 1975, he studied sociology at European University Cyprus. Before entering parliament, he served as executive director of the Tassos Papadopoulos Centre for Research, a role that linked him closely with policy, historical and political research. Pantelides was elected to the House for the first time in 2021 and was re-elected in 2026. His political profile is closely associated with DIKO’s Nicosia presence and with the party’s wider policy positions.

Famagusta

Zacharias Koulias

Zacharias Koulias is DIKO’s MP for Famagusta and the longest-serving member of the new House. Born in Rizokarpaso in 1950, he studied law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and worked as a lawyer before entering parliament. He has held the Famagusta seat continuously since 1999, making him one of the most experienced figures in Cypriot parliamentary politics. Koulias was re-elected in 2026 and remains closely associated with refugee issues, the Famagusta district and DIKO’s long-standing parliamentary presence.

Limassol

Panikos Leonidou

Panikos Leonidou is a returning DIKO MP for Limassol and a lawyer by profession. Born in Pachna in 1959, he studied public administration and political science at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where he also studied law. He later completed studies in Hellenic culture at the Open University of Cyprus. Leonidou founded his law office in Limassol in 2002 and has been active in public life for many years. He was re-elected in 2026, continuing DIKO’s representation in the Limassol district.

Larnaca

Andreas Apostolou

Andreas Apostolou is a returning MP for Larnaca, elected with DIKO in 2026. Born in Larnaca in 1986, he studied civil and transportation engineering at the National Technical University of Athens and completed postgraduate studies in business management at Bristol Business School. He has worked in the private sector and as a parliamentary assistant, and was first elected to the House in 2021. Apostolou’s parliamentary and public work has focused particularly on health, education, social welfare and issues affecting Larnaca.

Paphos

Chrysanthos Savvides

Chrysanthos Savvides is a returning DIKO MP for Paphos. Born in Paphos in 1971, he studied statistics at the Athens University of Economics and Business and completed postgraduate studies in statistics and probability at the University of Sheffield. Before entering parliament, he worked as an educator. Savvides was first elected to the House in 2021 and was re-elected in 2026. In parliament, he has served as deputy chair of the Education and Culture Committee and as a member of committees dealing with health and the environment.

Kyrenia

Adamos Aspris

Adamos Aspris is DIKO’s newly elected MP for Kyrenia. Born in 1976, he comes from the occupied Kyrenia district and has an academic background in public administration, diplomacy, communication, public relations and journalism. He has also worked in professional fields linked to communication and public-facing services. Aspris was elected in 2026 as DIKO’s representative for Kyrenia, giving the party one of the district’s three seats in the new House. His election adds a new face to DIKO’s parliamentary group.
