President Nikos Christodoulides said on Tuesday that his upcoming visit to India reflects the mutual political will of Cyprus and India to further strengthen their already excellent cooperation.
Speaking to reporters before attending the presentation of the new tourism development strategy of Paralimni–Deryneia municipality, the President described the visit as “a very important trip”, following the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Cyprus last June. He said that visit had laid the foundations for a strategic partnership, not only on political issues but also in areas such as the economy, investment and tourism.
President Christodoulides said he will visit Mumbai and then New Delhi, adding that the programme is full and is expected to further strengthen the results already seen since last year’s visit by the Indian Prime Minister to Cyprus. Several agreements will be signed during the visit, he said, noting that this demonstrates the readiness and political will of both countries to deepen bilateral relations.
The President also referred to the “very important” trade agreement between the European Union and India, saying he is travelling to India also as President of the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the EU.
“There are several developments, and you will hear several announcements,” he said.
