August Rainfall Reaches 1,593% of Normal in Parts of Cyprus

Panagia Bridge recorded the largest excess, while the average across government-controlled areas reached 255% of normal.

 

Rainfall across the government-controlled areas has far exceeded seasonal averages this August, with every Meteorological Department monitoring station surpassing its normal monthly total.

By 9am on 20 August, average rainfall had reached 255% of the August norm, according to figures released by the department. The total stood at 498.5 millimetres.

More than ten times the monthly norm

At several stations, rainfall exceeded ten times the usual amount for August.

Panagia Bridge recorded the largest excess at 1,593%, followed by Lythrodontas at 1,270%, Kornos at 1,108%, Larnaca Airport at 800% and Platania at 471%.

Rainfall since October above average

Since 1 October, average rainfall across the government-controlled areas has reached 585.7 millimetres, equivalent to 117% of normal.

Every monitoring station has exceeded 100% of its seasonal average.
