Grey skies, heavy rain and the smell of autumn once again marked the mountain areas today, as rain and storms broke out mainly in higher-altitude regions, according to video and photos shared by members of the Facebook group "Weather Enthusiasts of Cyprus." The phenomena occurred mainly around midday, confirming the atmospheric instability that has affected the island in recent days.
A yellow warning issued by the Meteorological Department is in effect from 1pm to 6pm, due to the possibility of isolated intense storms mainly in the mountains, the interior and the eastern coast. Hail is possible during the storms, and rainfall intensity could locally exceed 35mm per hour.
Rain to continue tomorrow, temperatures rising from Thursday
According to the Meteorological Department's morning forecast, unsettled weather is expected to persist, with localised rain and isolated storms forecast today and tomorrow, mainly in the mountains and the interior. From Thursday, the instability is expected to ease, with temperatures rising noticeably above the average seasonal values.
