Showers affected parts of Cyprus on Monday, including mountain areas and the capital, even as temperatures remained around 26C.

According to private meteorologist Eric Kitas and the Kitasweather website, Cyprus is being affected by an upper-level trough and relatively mild temperatures for the season. The pattern is expected to keep conditions unsettled at least until the middle of the week.

As a result, isolated local showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue during the midday and afternoon hours, mainly in the mountains and inland areas. Temperatures are forecast to rise over the coming days, exceeding 30C inland.

Members of the Facebook group Weather Friends shared videos from several areas of Cyprus, particularly in the Nicosia district and the mountains, where showers broke out during the day.

According to the Department of Meteorology, an unstable air mass is affecting the region.

Tonight, the weather will gradually become mainly clear. Increased low cloud is expected at times, mainly in the west, while thin fog or fog is expected to form locally during the early morning hours. Temperatures will fall to 14C inland, around 16C on the coast and 8C in the higher mountains.

On Tuesday, after the fog clears, the weather will become partly cloudy. Later in the day, developing clouds are expected to bring isolated showers and thunderstorms in the mountains and inland areas. Temperatures will rise to around 27C inland, around 26C on the southeastern, northern and eastern coasts, around 24C on the remaining coasts and 15C in the higher mountains.

On Tuesday night, the weather will be mainly clear, although increased low cloud will be observed locally. Thin fog or fog is expected to form during the early morning hours, mainly over the eastern half of the island.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, isolated showers or thunderstorms are expected mainly during the afternoon, particularly in the mountains and possibly inland. On Thursday, isolated rain is possible in the mountains.

Temperatures are expected to rise gradually until Wednesday, with no significant change forecast on Thursday, remaining close to average climatic values for the season.
