The groom and best man arrested in connection with the so-called 'wedding drift' incident at the Linopetra roundabout in Limassol have been released after two days in custody, without being charged, pending the completion of police investigations.
Limassol Traffic Police are continuing their inquiries, while the vehicle seen in the footage of the incident remains unaccounted for. The two men reportedly presented a different vehicle body to police, which was missing several components, including its steering wheel, engine and seats.
According to information obtained, the vehicle handed over to the authorities was not the one used in the incident. Police are therefore continuing their efforts to locate the car, with searches having been carried out at various premises, including car yards and mechanics' garages, so far without success.
Officers are also seeking to identify the tow truck drivers who took part in the wedding procession, as well as other individuals who may have been involved, in order to establish the extent of their involvement.
The incident took place on 31 October, the day of the wedding, as the procession travelled from the church to the wedding reception.
Footage subsequently shared on social media showed a car performing dangerous manoeuvres around a pedestrian standing in the middle of the road. The pedestrian was the 36-year-old groom, while the vehicle was allegedly driven by his 28-year-old best man.
Once the investigation has been completed, the case is expected to be brought before the court.
