The Municipality of Nicosia will host the URBACT City Festival 2026 on 29 and 30 September 2026, with 500 representatives of cities from across Europe expected to participate.
According to a statement by the Municipality, the event aims to promote the exchange of knowledge and good practices, present local initiatives and discuss the key challenges facing European cities today.
During the Festival, initiatives from 273 European cities will be presented. These cities took part in 30 URBACT Action Planning Networks.
The themes include, among others, climate action, the local economy, the digital transition, sustainable mobility, social inclusion, housing, urban planning, culture and the cities’ night-time economy and life.
URBACT supports cities in developing integrated and sustainable solutions to contemporary urban challenges through cooperation, the exchange of experiences and the participation of local communities.
The Municipality of Nicosia says that hosting the event provides an opportunity to strengthen dialogue on urban policy and highlight the important role of cities in implementing European priorities.
The Municipality will also present its urban policies and the interventions it is implementing to create a more sustainable, resilient, inclusive and innovative city. These include its participation in the European Cities After Dark project, which focuses on shaping a livelier, safer, more sustainable and inclusive night-time life.
“Hosting the URBACT City Festival 2026 strengthens Nicosia’s European and international role and highlights the city as a meeting place for the exchange of ideas and the development of new partnerships between European cities,” the Municipality concludes.
