A forest fire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon, 16 September 2026, near the quarries of Androlikou community in Paphos district has been brought fully under control, the Department of Forests said.
The fire broke out at around 3.30pm and was detected at an early stage by a nearby observation post, according to the department.
The rapid mobilisation of firefighting forces brought the blaze under full control at around 4.30pm.
Five decares of wild vegetation burned
The fire burned an area of approximately five decares, which was covered by low wild vegetation.
A total of 23 Department of Forests personnel took part in the firefighting operation, supported by five fire engines and one earthmover.
The Fire Service also deployed nine personnel, two fire engines and two earthmovers.
Five aircraft joined firefighting operation
Five aircraft also contributed to the operation from the air.
The combined deployment of ground and aerial resources helped firefighters containthe blaze shortly after it was detected.
The authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
