Public urged to take extra care during swimming and sea activities on Thursday

Cyprus beaches are expected to be without lifeguard coverage on Thursday, 17 September, due to a nationwide 24-hour strike by hourly paid government employees, the Interior Ministry has warned.

In a statement, the ministry said the industrial action announced by trade unions representing hourly paid government staff would affect lifeguard services across all districts of the island.

As a result, beaches are expected to operate without normal lifeguard coverage for the duration of the strike.

The ministry urged the public to exercise particular caution when swimming or engaging in sea-related activities at beaches where lifeguards will not be on duty.
