The defendant, who admitted shooting his wife, was sentenced to six years in prison after paying more than €161,000 in compensation and transferring three apartments to the victim and their daughter.

The Paphos Permanent Criminal Court on Monday imposed concurrent prison sentences, the longest being six years, on a 59-year-old man who shot his wife outside their home in Peyia in January 2025.

The defendant fired two shots at his wife with a hunting rifle, seriously injuring her. The then 46-year-old woman was hospitalized following the attack. The couple are now divorced.

The defendant admitted shooting the victim and calling the police afterwards. He also expressed remorse, cooperated with the authorities and assisted investigators by identifying relevant scenes connected to the case.

The court heard that the offender paid compensation to the victim and her family amounting to:

  • €130,000 to the victim,
  • €10,000 to her lawyer, and
  • €21,000 to their minor daughter.

He also transferred property assets, including one apartment registered in the name of their daughter, and two additional apartments over which he undertook not to claim any rights.

The court was also presented with a sworn statement from the complainant confirming that she had been fully compensated and no longer had any claims against him.
