A violent clash outside a club leaves four injured, as police arrest two suspects and investigate attempted murder.

The Famagusta CID is investigating a case of attempted murder following a violent clash that left four people injured outside a well-known nightclub in Ayia Napa.

A 21‑year‑old Israeli has been remanded in custody to assist with investigations, while another Israeli national has also been arrested. During the altercation, the 21‑year‑old suspect is alleged to have pulled a knife and injured three Greek Cypriots.

According to Police, at around 4:30 in the early hours, officers responded to a report of a fight outside a nightclub on Louka Louka Street. The 21‑year‑old Israeli and his 22‑year‑old compatriot were involved in an altercation with a Cypriot.

Two security guards at the club, also Cypriots, intervened to calm the situation and separate those involved. At some point, the 21‑year‑old allegedly pulled out a knife and injured the Cypriot he was fighting with as well as the two security guards.

During the clash, the 22‑year‑old friend of the suspect was also injured. The three Greek Cypriot victims, aged 22 and 25, who are security guards, and 41, sustained injuries.

One of the guards, aged 22, was stabbed in the abdomen and underwent surgery. His condition is serious but out of danger. The second guard sustained a stab wound to the right calf, while the third victim suffered a laceration. The 22‑year‑old Israeli sustained head and facial injuries.

When police approached the 21‑year‑old suspect, who was found at the scene in an agitated state, he began verbally abusing officers and was also arrested for offences including public insult, causing disturbance and breach of the peace.

He was brought before the Famagusta District Court, which issued an eight‑day detention order. All four injured individuals remained hospitalised at Famagusta General Hospital.

A knife was found at the scene and taken as evidence. Investigators are taking statements to determine the causes of the clash.

Later, an arrest warrant was also issued against the 22‑year‑old friend of the suspect, who is currently hospitalised.

Such serious incidents during the tourist season in Ayia Napa are not uncommon and continue to damage the image of the resort, highlighting once again the need for more effective policing.
