From 4 June, a new phase of works in the moat. Changes in routes, road closures and limited access to the walled city.

From Thursday, 4 June 2026, works for the redevelopment project of the Inner Circular Section of the Nicosia Moat enter a new phase, bringing new traffic arrangements and additional difficulties for drivers and visitors to the historic centre.

According to an announcement by the Nicosia Municipality, construction section A3 will be closed to traffic, extending from the 'Oxi' roundabout to the entrance of the municipal parking area at Costanza Bastion.

At the same time, the municipal parking area at Costanza Bastion will remain closed until mid December 2026, depriving the city centre of a significant number of parking spaces for approximately six months.

The exit section from Thermopylon Street towards the 'Oxi' roundabout also remains closed, with the restriction expected to remain in place until the end of July 2026. At the same time, the closure of the eastern section of Konstantinou Palaiologou Avenue remains in force, where access is permitted only to residents and emergency vehicles.

The Municipality also announced the new routes that drivers should follow. For travel from the eastern to the western areas of the walled city and the pedestrian zone, traffic will be diverted via Stasinou Avenue, Doro Loizou Bridge, Konstantinou Palaiologou Avenue and Eleftheria Square.

For exiting the walled city towards Stasinou and Salaminos avenues, drivers should use the route via Lefkonos, Diogenous, Piraeus, Patriarchou Grigoriou and Agiou Antoniou streets. Due to the closure of the exit towards the 'Oxi' roundabout, the passage of lorries through Aeschylou and Hippokratous streets is prohibited, in order to avoid traffic problems and vehicles becoming trapped in the narrow roads of the area.

Within the framework of the project, works continue on the undergrounding of utility services, reconstruction of road surfaces and pavements, as well as improvement interventions on building facades. It is noted that the project is being implemented within the framework of the Cohesion Policy Programme 'THALEIA 2021-2027' with co funding from the European Union.

The Nicosia Municipality calls on the public to show understanding and to follow the temporary road signage placed in the affected areas.
