Cyprus will activate its new public early warning system, CY Alert, on 2 June, allowing authorities to send emergency notifications directly to mobile phones in affected areas.
The system is designed to provide immediate warnings in cases of emergencies and natural disasters, helping people take swift action to protect themselves and their property, according to the Ministry of Interior and Civil Defence.
As part of the launch, trial notifications will be sent between 2 and 15 June 2026. The messages will appear on mobile devices located within designated areas and will be accompanied by a loud alert tone and vibration.
The trial messages will clearly state “Test Test Test” or “Exercise Exercise Exercise”, meaning there is no real emergency and no action is required from the public.
Test schedule
The first tests will take place on Tuesday, 2 June, from 11am to 12 noon in the communities of Pissouri and Moniatis.
A second test will follow on the same day, from 4pm to 5pm, in the community of Psevdas.
On Sunday, 7 June, alerts will be sent between 10am and 11am in Argaka, Avgorou and Ora.
Further tests will take place on Wednesday, 10 June, from 4pm to 5pm in Foini and Kalopanayiotis.
A nationwide trial alert for a missing person case is scheduled for Monday, 15 June, from 3pm to 4pm.
Civil Defence clarified that the test messages may also be received in neighbouring communities near the areas where the trials are being carried out.
To receive CY Alert notifications, members of the public must ensure that the relevant settings are enabled on their mobile phones. Further information is available by calling 1450, while instructions are also being shared through Civil Defence’s social media accounts.
