Police in Morphou arrested the suspect on Monday in connection with an incident reported by a 69-year-old woman in a village in the Nicosia district.
According to police, an unknown man entered the woman’s home on the afternoon of Friday, May 16, and threatened her while demanding money. The woman, fearing for her safety, gave him €200 before he left the scene.
Police said the same man returned to the woman’s home later that day and, again using threats, forced her into his car. He then drove her to a bank where she held an account.
While there, the suspect allegedly tried to withdraw money from an ATM using the woman’s bank card, but was unsuccessful. He then drove the 69-year-old back to her home.
The woman filed a complaint with police on the same day. Testimony was obtained and a court warrant was issued for the arrest of the 24-year-old.
He was arrested on Monday and brought before the Nicosia District Court on Tuesday, which ordered his detention for six days.
Morphou CID is continuing investigations.
