Cyprus Begins Move to DVB-T2 Digital Television Platform

The gradual switch-off of the Velister platform starts on 10 October, with Hellas Sat taking over transmission.

The gradual switch-off of the Velister platform begins today. Hellas Sat is taking over as the new DVB-T2 platform for transmitting the television signal, marking a new era for Cypriot television.

Upgrade of the digital television network

The transition was announced on 24 August 2026 by the Department of Electronic Communications of the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy. It involves an upgrade of the digital television network to the modern European DVB-T2 technology. The upgrade is intended to deliver:

  • better picture and sound quality, including HD and 4K
  • more channels
  • more efficient use of frequencies

Timing of the switch-off

According to the announcement, the full transition and the permanent shutdown of the old platform take effect from today, 10 October.
