President Nikos Christodoulides is receiving congratulatory messages from dozens of heads of state and governmenton the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Cyprus, according to an announcement by the Presidency.
The leaders who sent messages
Among many others, the President received congratulatory messages from:
- President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping;
- President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi;
- King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud;
- Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq;
- President of Lebanon Joseph Aoun;
- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas;
- King Felipe VI of Spain;
- King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands;
- President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier;
- President of Italy Sergio Mattarella;
- President of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar;
- President of Hungary András Baka and Prime Minister Péter Magyar;

China: 55 years of diplomatic relations
According to the announcement, the President of China, whose country is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, said among other things that China and Cyprus are trusted friends who have always respected and supported each other. He said the two countries have upheld the principles of solidarity, mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation amid a turbulent international landscape.
He also noted that this year marks 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and five years since the start of their strategic partnership, and expressed his wish to further deepen bilateral relations.
Egypt: a boost after El Alamein visit
The President of Egypt, whose country took part in today's military parade for the anniversary of Cyprus's Independence with a contingent and aircraft, referred in his message to the long-standing relations between Cyprus and Egypt. He reaffirmed his will to continue working with the Cypriot government to further strengthen bilateral relations in many areas of mutual interest.
He added that the President's recent visit to El Alamein gives further momentum to constructive bilateral cooperation.
