Tragedy in Larnaca: Woman Drowns, Two Children Rushed to Hospital

A 35-year-old mother died and her two daughters were hospitalised after the family was caught in rough seas at a Larnaca beach on Saturday evening.

A tragedy occurred on Saturday afternoon at KOT beach in Larnaca, where a woman died by drowning while her two minor children were also endangered and taken to Makarios Hospital.

What happened

According to information available so far, the family involved, a European family of five, was at the beach at the time. The 35-year-old mother and her two daughters, aged 13 and 12, entered the sea at around 6:30pm, while the area was experiencing rough sea conditions.

The three of them got into difficulty and were spotted by other beachgoers, who rushed to pull them to shore.

The aftermath

The woman died, while the two children were initially taken to Larnaca General Hospital. One of the girls was subsequently transferred to Makarios Hospital, in Nicosia, due to the seriousness of her condition.

Timing and circumstances

The incident occurred shortly after the lifeguard service in the area had ended for the day. The family's third child had remained on the beach with the father.

Investigation under way

Members of the Larnaca CID are at the scene, investigating the circumstances under which the tragic incident occurred.
