The Transmission System Operator of Cyprus (TSO Cyprus) has described coverage of electricity demand during the evening peak hours (18:00-22:00) today and tomorrow as extremely marginal, warning of a possible inability to meet demand due to simultaneous faults at Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) production units at the Dhekelia and Vasilikos power stations. The operator noted that the EAC made intensive efforts to bring an additional unit at Dhekelia into availability, but this ultimately did not prove possible.
Heatwave conditions continue
According to the announcement, high temperatures are expected to continue tomorrow, with the heatwave (above 40°C) expected to ease from Friday.
Demand forecast for tomorrow
TSO Cyprus said peak demand tomorrow is estimated to reach 1,350 MW at midday and 1,100 MW in the evening, with production availability remaining at today's levels. The operator appealed to the public for measured use of electrical appliances in order to save electricity during the evening peak hours of 18:00-22:00.
