Terror Suspects Detained as Explosive Materials Seized in Larnaca

Two foreign nationals are remanded in custody for eight days as international agencies join the investigation.

The Cyprus Police are investigating two foreign nationals, aged 32 and 38, over suspected terrorism offences and participation in a criminal organisation, police spokesperson Byron Byronos confirmed to the Cyprus News Agency on Saturday. The suspects were apprehended under judicial warrants following an intelligence-led operation.

The investigation is being conducted in close coordination with other relevant state departments and international security agencies, operating within the framework of the international obligations of the Republic of Cyprus.

Court remand and evidence seized

The two suspects were brought before the Larnaca District Court on Friday, which granted an eight-day remand orderto facilitate ongoing police interrogations.

During searches, detectives seized various pieces of evidence found in the possession of the suspects. The confiscated items include materials and objects that can potentially be utilized for the manufacture of explosives.

Focus of operations

According to the police spokesperson, counter-terrorism investigations and active searches are currently concentrated within the Larnaca District.

Byronos emphasized that the police remain on high alert, systematically evaluating and analyzing every piece of incoming intelligence to initiate prompt law enforcement action where required.
