Ninety-two products posing risks to consumer health and safety were identified across European Union markets during the week starting April 6, according to the Consumer Protection Service.
The products were reported through the EU’s Safety Gate system, which tracks dangerous non-food items and alerts national authorities. A list detailing the products and associated risks has been made available.
For the purposes of monitoring the Cypriot market, the products have been distributed among relevant authorities as follows: 33 to the Consumer Protection Service, 14 to the Electromechanical Services, 14 to the Health Services, 10 to the Labour Inspection Department, 9 to the Pharmaceutical Services, 5 to the Department of Environment, 3 to the Road Transport Department, 2 to the Ministry of Interior in relation to construction products, 1 to the Department of Agriculture for biocides and 1 to the Mines Service.
Authorities have called on economic operators who have placed any of these products on the market to immediately inform the competent authority.
Consumers who may have purchased the products are advised to stop using them where necessary, return them to the retailer and notify the relevant authority.
