Farmers’ organisations on Sunday announced the temporary postponement of the protests they had planned for Monday, following an emergency meeting with officials from the competent state services, held at the initiative of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou.
In a joint announcement signed by numerous farmers’ organisations, including the Cyprus Cereal Producers’ Organisation (POS), the co-signed said they convened a meeting on Sunday after an initiative by the Minister, to discuss all issues on the table.
“Because the lengthy meeting involved a broad exchange of views on ways to address these issues, as well as on simplifying procedures, and was held in a spirit of good faith and cooperation, the Farmers’ Organisations and POS unanimously decided to allow additional time for the competent state services to resolve the matters in question and to temporarily postpone the protests scheduled for Monday.”
The farmers’ organisations thanked the Agriculture Minister, who took the initiative to organise the meeting, accepting the request they had submitted on Friday. They also expressed thanks to the officials from the relevant state services who participated in Sunday’s meeting.
