Children and adults took part in a pottery workshop at the 1st Simou Rural Festival, an interactive event aimed at introducing younger generations to traditional crafts and the art of working with clay.
Children and parents rolled up their sleeves, handled clay and, guided by their imagination, created small plates and other handmade objects.
For many of the children, it was their first experience working with clay. Through touch and creativity, they were introduced to a material closely linked to the land and local tradition, turning a simple activity into a meaningful hands-on experience.
According to the Friends of Simou association, the aim was to help children experience tradition first-hand rather than simply learning about it through images or stories. The group also thanked the Fossakis Workshop for taking part and for sharing the craft of pottery with the children.
Organisers said the activity highlighted the importance of passing traditions on to younger generations through direct participation and experience.
"Because tradition is not only something we remember; it is something we can touch, create and place in the hands of our children."
