A packed programme of cultural events is scheduled for Sunday in Nicosia, Limassol and other parts of Cyprus, from literature and theatre to village festivals celebrating local produce.
Nicosia
The Nicosia Book Festival runs from 10am to 10pm at Acropolis Park, with events featuring music, literature, poetry and dance. At 11am, First Lady Philippa Karsera will narrate a fairy tale at Theatre Ena, while at the same time Urban Production presents the musical "The Big Book of Small Creatures" at Dionysos Theatre, 29 Diagorou Street. Also from 11am to 1pm, the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation holds a workshop for adults on "The ancient coin as contemporary jewellery" at its premises at 86-90 Faneromenis Street. Young audiences are well served by the Mitsikouri 2026 International Performing Arts Festival for Children and Young People, organised by the Centre for Theatre for Children and Young People and ASSITEJ Cyprus. Cyprus' Yasemin Collective presents the clown theatre show "Kiki and Koko Go Loco" at 11am at Dancehouse Nicosia, and "Club Origami", a dance performance by Ichi Ni San from the United Kingdom and Japan, is staged at 11am and 4pm at the Melina Mercouri Cultural Centre. Italy's Teatro Telaio presents the theatrical installation "Archipelago" at 4pm, 6pm and 7pm at Dancehouse Nicosia, while fellow Italian company Teatrodistinto performs the physical theatre work "Solitarium" at 6pm at the Melina Mercouri Cultural Centre.
In the evening, the 16th Cyprus International Short Film Festival opens at 8pm at Rialto Theatre, presented by the Deputy Ministry of Culture, the Department of Contemporary Culture and Rialto Theatre. At the same hour, Marina Vronti's play "The Belly" is staged at Ktirion 53 as part of the ANTI-SKINO Festival, and the Antidrontes theatre group performs "The Wife Must Fear Her Husband" on the upper stage of Satiriko Theatre as part of the 39th Pancyprian Amateur Theatre Festival, organised by the Cyprus Theatre Organisation (THOC). At 8.30pm, the TratSik String Quartet performs at the University of Cyprus' 29th Cultural Festival at Axiothea Mansion, in the Michalis Pieris Cultural Centre, and the Antilogos Theatre production "Brandy Sour" premieres at 9pm at the Goethe-Institut Cyprus, 21 Markou Drakou Avenue.
Limassol
From 11am to 6pm, as part of the 5th Limassol Art Walks, Elena Agathokleous of the MITOS Performing Arts Centre presents "The Cinema" at Xydadiko, 34 Genethliou Mitella Street. At 11.30am, the Theotokos – Americos Argyriou Foundation holds a "Festival of Joy" at Limassol Public Garden, attended by the Mayor of Limassol. At 6pm, the Limassol Tourism Board, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and the Municipality of Amathounta host the 1st Gastronomy and Culture Festival, themed "From Olympus to the Municipality of Amathounta", at Irini Square in Agios Athanasios, under the auspices of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works. As part of Limassol 2026, the FMX Show – Off Road Festival All Star takes place at 7.30pm on the field on Versailles Street in the Agios Antonios district, also attended by the mayor, followed at 8.20pm by a concert by Greek band Locomondo at the same venue.
Across the countryside
As part of the Deputy Ministry of Culture's Cultural Decentralisation 2026 programme, Threading Stories holds the experiential workshop "Tzivertia: Living Structures" from 10am to 1pm and from 3pm to 5pm at the Fterikoudi Community Council. At 6pm, the music performance with narrative texts "Sound Colours of Memory: Dialogues Beyond Time" takes place in Gourri square, and at 7pm Marina Verzanli and Dimitris Mesimeris pay tribute to Alekos Sakellarios with the concert "The Instruments Have Started" at the Korfi community park. At 7.30pm, the Mousikorama group presents a concert tribute to Manos Loizos at the Polystipos Cultural Centre. In Paphos district, the Department of Town Planning and Housing marks the 2026 European Heritage Days with "From the vineyard to zivania: Tradition revived in Koilinia" at 10am at the Koilinia Community Council buildings, celebrating zivania, the traditional Cypriot spirit distilled from grape pomace, while the 3rd Zivania Festival takes place in Giolou at 4pm. From 11am to 8pm, the Troodos Network and the Paramali Community Council host the Centuries-Old Olive Tree Festival at the Paramali community park.
