The Cyprus Film Days International Festival 2026 will host internationally recognised filmmaker Nadav Lapid for the screening of his latest film, Yes (2025). The Israeli director, screenwriter and author, whose work has received major distinctions at leading international festivals, will attend the event and participate in a public discussion about his work.

Lapid’s presence marks a notable moment for the festival, offering Cypriot audiences the opportunity to engage directly with one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary cinema.

A distinctive voice in contemporary cinema

Born in Tel Aviv and based in Paris in recent years, Nadav Lapid has established himself as one of the most distinctive filmmakers of contemporary cinema. His work is characterised by strong political reflection, a personal cinematic language and a sustained questioning of national and ideological identities.

His feature films have received major recognition at international festivals. The Kindergarten Teacher (2014), Synonyms(2019), Ahed’s Knee (2021) and Yes (2025) have all been honoured at the Cannes, Berlin and Locarno film festivals.

Lapid’s work has also been presented in retrospectives at film institutions and festivals worldwide. He has served as a member of international juries at the Berlin, Cannes, Venice and Locarno film festivals.

His films frequently move between fiction and autobiography, exploring themes such as power, homeland, violence and personal responsibility.

The film “Yes”

In his latest film Yes, which will be screened out of competition, Lapid returns with a politically charged cinematic work examining the contradictions of contemporary society and the relationship between the individual, power, ideology and public image.

The film follows an artist navigating the tension between personal conscience and the pressures of a system that demands conformity. Through an intensely personal narrative, the story explores questions about the responsibility of the artist, the meaning of consent and the limits of freedom of expression.

Yes is a co-production with the Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus, with the Cypriot production company AMP Filmworks participating as co-producer.
