Serious concerns have been raised over the safety of a multi-storey residential building in the heart of Paphos, according to a letter sent by Giorgos Kounas, Paphos District Coordinator of the Social Alliance, to Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou.
In the letter, Kounas says the building, located on Renou Street in the city’s historic commercial centre, shows extensive damage and strong signs of structural weakness.
He warns that the condition of the property poses an immediate risk not only to tenants, but also to passers-by and neighbouring premises.
According to Kounas, despite the building’s apparent state of disrepair, no necessary measures have yet been taken to restore it or ensure its safe management, heightening concern among residents and business owners in the area.
The letter is accompanied by photographs documenting the current condition of the building.
Kounas also warns that, without immediate intervention by the competent authorities, there is a serious risk of an accident with tragic consequences.
“Such an outcome can and must be prevented,” the letter says, urging the Interior Ministry to carry out an immediate inspection, assess the condition of the building and take all necessary measures to safeguard public safety in the city centre.
