Cyprus’ Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos posted on Monday on the platform X highlighting his diplomatic engagements in the Middle East and the Gulf, describing the move as a response to what he called “new unfounded statements” from the Turkish side.
The post refers to Cyprus’ cooperation with Arab and Gulf partners and features meetings held by Kombos with his counterparts and senior officials from Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Qatar. It also includes contacts with representatives of the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). In the video, it is stated that “the Republic of Cyprus and its Arab and Gulf partners are working together for peace”.
According to the Foreign Minister, the message was intended as an answer to recent Turkish claims made at international forums.
The move follows remarks by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, where he alleged that Greece, Cyprus and Israel have formed a military alliance targeting Muslim countries in the region. Fidan added that while Turkey is capable of defending itself, other countries in the region are more vulnerable and view such cooperation with concern.
