A new fatal road accident occurred on Easter Sunday night in Limassol, leaving a pedestrian dead after he was struck by a taxi while attempting to cross the road. The pedestrian was trying to cross Griva Digeni Avenue, near the Agios Nikolaos roundabout, moving from the north side of the road toward the south.
Emilios Kaffas, deputy head of the Limassol Traffic Police, said the pedestrian sustained fatal injuries in the collision and was transported to Limassol General Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.

The taxi driver underwent a preliminary alcohol test, which showed zero alcohol, as well as a drug test, which was negative.
According to Kaffas, there is no pedestrian crossing at the specific location, while the lighting conditions in the area are considered adequate. “All the evidence will be examined together with additional witness statements we are trying to obtain in order to determine the exact circumstances of the accident,” he said.

Regarding the possibility of CCTV footage, he noted that this will be investigated as soon as possible. “We will check this at first light, also because everything is closed due to the holiday, in order to verify that element as well,” he said.
Police investigations are ongoing, while the arrest of the taxi driver is expected.
