An unknown individual attempted to steal a police van in the early hours of Monday in Aradippou, where officers were stationed as part of measures related to foot-and-mouth disease. The vehicle was later recovered after a police officer pursued the suspect using a private car.

Incident in the SOPAZ area

According to information, the police van was parked in the SOPAZ area of Aradippou as part of monitoring measures linked to the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak.

An unknown person entered the parked vehicle and drove away.

The police officer responsible for the vehicle noticed the incident immediately and began pursuing the suspect using another private vehicle.

Vehicle recovered after pursuit

The officer managed to intercept the suspect in a dead-end area and recover the police vehicle.

According to the officer’s account, he had temporarily stepped away from the van when the unknown individual took the opportunity to enter the vehicle, start it and drive off.

The officer eventually recovered the van near the McDonald’s restaurant on Stratigou Timagia Avenue.

Investigation underway

Authorities said the circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
