New Foot-and-Mouth Case Detected in Dromolaxia

Outbreak identified at small ruminant unit, bringing total confirmed cases in Cyprus to 42

Authorities confirmed a new case of Foot-and-mouth disease on Tuesday at a sheep and goat unit in Dromolaxia. According to official information, the case was identified at a holding of 110 animals located within an already designated infected zone, and was therefore considered expected following the morning’s laboratory test results.

Total cases rise

With this development, the total number of confirmed foot-and-mouth disease cases in Cyprus has risen to 42. Separately, authorities addressed reports concerning a separate incident following a complaint submitted to the Veterinary Services.

A joint inspection was carried out on Monday by the Veterinary Services and the Police at a premises in the Geri area. During the on-site check, 23 cattle were identified, some of which were properly marked while others were not. The premises were described as a livestock operation that was not in active use.

The case is under investigation by the Veterinary Services and the Police, with authorities expected to proceed in line with established legal procedures.
