Customs authorities in Nicosia have carried out a new major seizure of untaxed tobacco products.

According to an announcement by the Customs Department, a double‑cab vehicle driven by a 75‑year‑old Greek Cypriot was stopped yesterday near the buffer zone in the southern suburbs of the capital.

During the inspection, officers found:

  • 203 cartons of cigarettes

  • 30 cartons of heated‑tobacco products

  • Hand‑rolling tobacco weighing a total of 3,750 grams

  • One kilogram of shisha tobacco

None of the products carried the required health warnings in Greek and Turkish, indicating that they were untaxed and illegally imported.

The man was arrested but later released after his proposal for an out‑of‑court settlement was accepted, involving the payment of €13,000.
