A large-scale operation by the Cyprus Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) in Nicosia has uncovered what authorities describe as evidence pointing to an organised criminal network, following the seizure of substantial quantities of narcotics, firearms and improvised explosive devices.

According to police sources, investigations remain ongoing, with officers having located two improvised explosive devices, two pistols, a replica firearm and live ammunition during coordinated searches. Authorities also confiscated 11,640 firecrackers.

The scale of the drug seizure has significantly exceeded initial estimates. While early information suggested approximately 100 kilograms of narcotics, the ongoing count has so far confirmed more than 140 kilograms of cannabis and over 50 kilograms of cocaine. Officials have indicated that the final quantities may increase as the assessment continues.

Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. They remain in custody and are expected to be brought before a court on Thursday morning, where police will seek remand orders as investigations proceed.

Authorities have not ruled out further arrests, as forensic examinations and intelligence analysis continue in what is shaping up to be one of the largest recent drug-related operations in Cyprus.
