There was no confirmed breach of relevant legislation as to the operation of the 'Agora' Platform, attorney to Fidias Panayiotou told Politis Radio, following remarks by Personal Data Protection Commissioner that the MEP needed to suspend its operations for an impact assessment.
Yiannis Georgiades said that the issue was governed by the European Personal Data Protection Act, which has immediate effect.
He further added that following a voluntary suspension of specific features, including MP data processing and voting applications until the procedure is complete, the MEP's legal team is in active dialogue with authorities to finalise the necessary impact assessment.
'We immediately responded and provided the impact report, submitting additional documents in the framework of dialogue with the competent authority,' the legal representative of Fidias Panayiotou also stressed.
Closing down the 'Agora' platform is a very drastic measure, the attorney added, noting that the goal here 'wasn't to take it down but establish its legal operation.'
