AKEL Criticises Govt Silence Over ‘Videogate’ Revelations

Opposition questions transparency after Black Cube admission

A political row has intensified over the government’s continued silence regarding revelations surrounding the 'videogate' scandal, with AKEL stepping up its criticism.

Just days after the company Black Cube publicly assumed responsibility for the controversial video, the administration of President Nikos Christodoulides has yet to issue an official response, AKEL said.

In a statement, AKEL said the lack of reaction raises serious questions about transparency and accountability, arguing that the developments undermine earlier government claims of external interference.

The party asserted that narratives referring to “hybrid warfare” and alleged foreign involvement have collapsed following Black Cube’s admission, leaving those who promoted them exposed.

'Failed to accept responsibility'

AKEL also placed particular emphasis on alleged links between the presidential environment and powerful economic interests, calling on the President to provide clear answers.

According to the statement, Christodoulides has failed to address citizens or accept responsibility, while also avoiding questions regarding connections within his circle and issues surrounding the financing of his election campaign.

The party further accused the government of withholding information from both parliament and the public concerning the organisation associated with the First Lady, urging authorities to disclose full details of donations, including the companies involved.

AKEL concluded by calling for a full investigation into the matter, warning that continued silence only deepens concerns and undermines public trust in institutions.
