The Interior Ministry has sent a formal letter to the Mayor and members of the Polis Chrysochous Municipal Council following a complaint alleging illegal procedures within the municipality.

In a post published on Friday on the X platform, the ministry said the letter was sent after a complaint was submitted to Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou.

According to the ministry, the Mayor and council members have been asked to submit specific information as soon as possible. The request is part of an investigation into whether the principle of legality has been upheld.

The investigation is being carried out under the provisions of Article 117 of the Municipalities Law.

The ministry said the aim is to examine the decisions and procedures of the municipal council in relation to the complaint.

Based on the findings of the investigation, the Interior Minister may request the withdrawal of decisions or proceed to annul decisions taken by the Municipal Council.

The ministry did not provide further details on the nature of the alleged illegal procedures or the content of the complaint.
