A long phone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin has produced a major energy deal after a period in which relations between Washington and Moscow had been frozen, with the Kremlin saying that "neither of them wanted to hang up first." Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov told the Russian news agency Interfax on Saturday that the conversation lasted an hour and a half and that the two presidents ended the call at the same time, at literally the same moment.
Diesel deal and sanctions relief
During the call, the two presidents agreed that Russia will supply diesel to the US and international markets in order to bring down fuel prices, CNN Greece reported. The agreement led to a sudden, temporary easing of US sanctions on Russian fuel, provoking strong displeasure in Ukraine. According to the Kremlin, most of the conversation focused on efforts to end the war in Ukraine, although Putin played down the prospects of an imminent resumption of trilateral peace talks.
