Shakira wants to reduce her sons’ travel between Miami and Barcelona while maintaining the time they spend with their father.

Shakira and her former partner, retired Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué, appeared before a Barcelona court on Tuesday over proposed changes to the arrangements governing contact with their two sons.

According to the Colombian singer’s legal team, the proceedings concern terms agreed following the couple’s separation in 2022.

Shakira, who is currently in Madrid for a series of concerts, is seeking to reduce the children’s travel between Miami, where they live with her, and Barcelona, where Piqué resides.

Her lawyers said the aim is “to protect their emotional, physical and educational wellbeing”.

Proposal to reduce travel

Under Shakira’s proposal, Piqué would travel to Miami during the children’s school holidays, allowing them to “maintain their routine for longer periods”, according to her representatives.

The singer stressed through her legal team that she does not intend to reduce the amount of time the children spend with their father.

The proposed change instead focuses on limiting the frequency with which the children themselves are required to travel between the United States and Spain.

Agreement reached after 2022 split

Shakira and Piqué publicly confirmed their relationship in 2011.

They have two sons, Milan, born in 2013, and Sasha, born in 2015.

After more than a decade together, the couple announced their separation in June 2022.

Several months later, they reached an agreement regarding their children. Following that agreement, Shakira left Barcelona and moved to Miami with their sons.

Piqué, who won the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Spain, is entitled to spend several days each month with his children, as well as periods during school holidays.

Shakira concludes world tour

The 49-year-old singer is currently completing her world tour in Madrid with a run of 13 concerts, scheduled to continue until 12 October.

Shakira launched her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour in February 2025, named after her Grammy-winning album containing songs addressing her separation from Piqué.
