The Larnaca District Local Government Organisation has launched a tender for contractors to respond to buildings at risk of collapse and posing an immediate danger to public safety.

The Larnaca District Local Government Organisation (EOA) has launched a tender for private contractors who will be deployed to deal with dangerous buildings deemed at imminent risk of collapse.

The move comes as concerns grow over the increasing number of hazardous structures across the city and district of Larnaca.

Emergency response role

Under the proposed contract, contractors will be the first to respond when buildings are officially assessed as posing an immediate threat to people, neighbouring properties, public infrastructure or traffic.

The contract is expected to come into force in early 2027, with interested parties required to submit bids by 5 November.

Wide range of interventions

The successful contractor will be responsible for mobilising specialised personnel, equipment and safety resources to carry out urgent works, including:

  • Fencing off and restricting access to dangerous areas.
  • Installing warning signs.
  • Temporary or permanent structural support works.
  • Removing hazardous building elements.
  • Clearing unstable or partially collapsed materials.
  • Partial or full demolition where necessary.
  • Transporting and disposing of demolition waste.

The aim is to eliminate or minimise risks as quickly as possible.

Around-the-clock readiness

The contractor will be required to remain on operational standby throughout the duration of the agreement and respond to instructions from the EOA on a 24-hour basis, including weekends and public holidays.

All work will be carried out under the supervision of authorised engineers and in accordance with legislation, health and safety requirements, engineering standards and environmental regulations.

Contract value

The estimated value of the contract stands at €80,000 excluding VAT.

According to the EOA, the amount was calculated based on the anticipated number of incidents requiring immediate intervention at dangerous buildings across the district.
