A fire deliberately set by unknown persons broke out among piles of discarded materials on the ground and first floors of an abandoned three-storey building in Strovolos, the Fire Service said.
The Fire Service said it received a call about the incident at 2.09am, with the Acropolis Fire Station responding. According to the Fire Service statement, the fire was brought under control by 2.43am. It was caused by malicious action by unknown persons, the statement said.
Woman hospitalised after Lakatamia fire
Separately, the Fire Service received a call at 4.50pm yesterday for a fire at a home in Lakatamia, Nicosia district.
The Lakatamia Fire Station responded with two vehicles, whose crews carried out final extinguishing, checked the premises and ventilated the property. The resident had attempted to put out the fire herself before the Fire Service arrived.
During her attempt, she inhaled smoke and was taken by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital for treatment, the statement said.
The fire was caused by a cooking utensil left forgotten on a lit cooker and affected part of the kitchen's equipment, according to the Fire Service.
39 calls in 24 hours
The Fire Service said that between 6am on 2 September 2026 and 6am on 3 September 2026, it responded to 39 calls for assistance, comprising 14 fires, 22 special services and three false alarms.
