The Justice Ministry has denied having a preferred candidate for the position of Director of Central Prisons, rejecting reports or suggestions that a decision has already been made or that the appointment has been “locked in”.
In a statement issued in response to a report published on Wednesday, the ministry said the process to fill the position is currently underway and is being conducted by the competent bodies in accordance with the existing institutional framework and established procedures.
The ministry stressed that it has no authority to assess or select candidates and does not intervene in the process in any way.
No candidate 'locked in'
As a result, it said, claims or assessments that a decision had already been made, that a particular candidate had been “locked in”, or that the ministry favoured a specific candidate “do not reflect reality”.
According to the ministry, all candidates are assessed exclusively on the basis of the established criteria and institutional procedures.
It added that a candidate’s previous professional position or background does not constitute grounds for preference or differential treatment.
The Ministry of Justice and Public Order said it fully respects the independence and responsibilities of the institutions involved in the process and would respect the outcome, regardless of what that outcome may be.
“Meritocracy, transparency and equal treatment of candidates are safeguarded through the faithful application of the institutional framework and respect for the process until its completion,” the ministry said.
