Nine Arrests and 225 Traffic Offences Recorded in Overnight Policing Operation

Police carried out nine arrests and issued 225 traffic fines during overnight patrols, as part of operations targeting crime prevention and road safety across urban areas.

Police arrested nine people overnight for various offences, including assault and causing injury, illegal possession of drugs and unlawful stay in the Republic, during coordinated patrols aimed at preventing serious crime and maintaining public order.

According to the Police Communication Branch, officers stopped 400 vehicles for checks and screened 516 people during the operation. Police also carried out 39 inspections of premises, resulting in two reports for offences.

Traffic checks led to 225 fines for various road offences, while 12 traffic violations are under further investigation. Thirteen vehicles were impounded as part of the checks.

Speeding accounted for the largest number of offences, with 101 drivers reported for exceeding speed limits. Police also recorded five cases of drink-driving and two cases of driving under the influence of drugs, detected following preliminary roadside drug tests. Officers carried out 75 alcohol tests and two drug tests on drivers.

Police said similar coordinated policing operations continue daily, with increased patrols, targeted checks and rapid response, with the aim of protecting the public and ensuring public order.
