US President Donald Trump praised what he described as the “huge impact” of decisions taken by the world’s leading economies, as leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) held a videoconference to discuss the war in Iran and the economic consequences of the conflict.

In a short video released by the French presidency, Trump said that decisions taken by the world’s most powerful economies have significant global repercussions.

“I think we have a huge impact, really incredible, on the world,” Trump said after French President Emmanuel Macron, who chaired the G7 meeting, gave him the floor.

Oil reserves decision

It was not immediately clear whether the US president was referring to the decision to release strategic oil reserves, which had reportedly been agreed just minutes earlier.

The remarks by Macron and Trump came shortly after the International Energy Agency (IEA) recommended the release of 400 million barrels of oil from strategic reserves, a measure aimed at easing pressure on global energy markets amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
