Filming for the international television series My Aphrodite is set to begin in Cyprus during this year’s Limassol Carnival. The pilot episode will be shot live within the carnival parade, according to statements made by the production company to the Cyprus News Agency.

Start of filming during the Limassol Carnival

Filming of the international television series My Aphrodite will commence in Cyprus during the Limassol Carnival. The production is being launched through an initiative by Screentale Cyprus, which in 2025 presented the Limassol Carnival song Life is a Carnival.

Pilot episode filmed live during the parade

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Marija Savina, also known as Miss 4C, said that filming of the pilot episode, titled Life is a Carnival, will take place during the Limassol Carnival.

According to Savina, the action of the episode will unfold live within the carnival parade.

Continuation of cultural exchange initiative

Savina noted that filming the series in Cyprus is a continuation of an initiative undertaken last year in cooperation with the Municipality of Limassol. That initiative aimed to showcase Cyprus’s carnival culture in Rio de Janeiro, followed by the hosting of the King and Queen of the Rio Carnival in Limassol, creating cultural links between the two cities.

Scale of the production and international collaboration

Savina underlined that the television series is a large-scale project by Cypriot standards and required many years of preparation and development. She added that the project has now entered the production phase through international collaboration.

Storyline and creative background of the series

Referring to the content of the series, Savina stated that My Aphrodite was initially written as a novel and later developed into a television project inspired by the myths of Cyprus. She explained that the narrative begins in London in the 1920s and unfolds in contemporary Cyprus, combining mythology, history and modern life.

Participation of an international film star

Without disclosing a name, Savina told CNA that an international film star is also participating in the series and will be filming simultaneously in Rio de Janeiro.

Further announcements by Limassol Municipality

Savina expressed confidence that the television series will present Cyprus to international audiences in a new way. She added that further details about the project will be announced during the Limassol Municipality press conference on Wednesday, where the programme of the Limassol Carnival will be presented.
