High concentrations of dust were recorded across Cyprus on Wednesday, prompting public health warnings. The Department of Labour Inspection reported elevated dust levels measured by its ground-based Air Quality Monitoring Network.

The dust contains fine, inhalable particles that may affect human health. Authorities have advised the public, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and patients, to avoid outdoor activities until the phenomenon passes.

Employers are required to assess risks for staff working outdoors under the 2022 Occupational Safety and Health regulations. Appropriate organisational or technical measures should be taken, and workers are recommended to use personal protective equipment when exposed to high dust levels.

Hourly measurements at 08:00 showed the following dust concentrations: Nicosia 44.4 μg/m³, Limassol 132.6 μg/m³, Larnaca 79.3 μg/m³, Paralimni 82.8 μg/m³, Paphos 180.2 μg/m³, Zygi 126.3 μg/m³, and Agia Marina Xyliatou 178.6 μg/m³.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates if conditions worsen.
