The weather in Cyprus will change for a while from Thursday evening, according to Andreas Chrysanthou, officer at the Department of Meteorology. He told Politis that northeasterly winds will begin to affect the region, with the intensity increasing on Friday. The phenomenon is linked to a low-pressure system affecting Turkey and will have a direct impact on our island. "Dry winds will blow from the north, which will affect us until Monday," explained Chrysanthou. This change will be accompanied by a drop in temperature of three to four degrees compared to current levels. The winds are expected to strengthen significantly on Friday and Saturday, reaching 5 to 6 Beaufort. The phenomena will be more intense inland, in the Troodos region and in the eastern parts of the island.
Here comes the rain... not?
Chrysanthou said that "nothing significant is expected until Sunday," but noted that it is still too early to make a reliable forecast. "Two years ago, we saw tornadoes under similar conditions," he added.
He further said that temperatures will begin to rise slightly from Sunday onwards, but will not immediately return to previous levels. As for the onset of autumn, the Meteorology Department official estimated that "we will essentially see it from mid-October onwards.
On Saturday and Sunday, the weather will continue to be mainly clear, while the northern winds will continue to be intermittently strong.
The temperature on Friday will drop and on Saturday there will be no significant change, especially inland and in the mountains, hovering around and possibly slightly below the average seasonal values. On Sunday, temperatures will rise slightly.
