Four New Infected Goat and Sheep Units Confirmed in Dromolaxia and Geri

Total infected units now stands at 70 as culling and vaccinations continue across Larnaca and Nicosia districts

The Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed four new positive cases of infection in goat and sheep units within the designated infected livestock zones, bringing the total number of infected units to 70. Of these, 59 are located in the Larnaca district and 11 in the Nicosia district.

The Veterinary Services laboratory confirmed two new positive units in Dromolaxia-Meneou and two in Geri. The Ministry said sampling, contact tracing and laboratory testing are continuing at an intensified pace.

Culling of animals is ongoing at this stage in both the Nicosia and Larnaca districts. The second phase of the vaccination programme is also continuing, with 67% of the cattle population and 44% of the goat and sheep population within the affected areas vaccinated to date. For pigs, 84% of units within the infected zones have so far been vaccinated.
