A violent incident involving more than 10 Iranian nationals, which escalated into gunfire, occurred on Monday at 8.30pm in Limassol, in the seafront area of Neapolis. Police have arrested six people, while at least four more are being sought; their identities have not yet been confirmed for arrest warrants to be issued.
Among other offences, one individual is being investigated for attempted murder after allegedly pulling out a pistol during the fight and shooting at two compatriots, injuring one in the legs. Two spent cartridges were found at the scene on Limassol’s coastal road. Investigations are ongoing.
Injured remain under guard in hospital
Only three suspects were present for the court procedure, as the other three are hospitalised under guard due to injuries suffered either from gunfire or beatings. One of those present in court is also injured, with a head wound.

According to statements from those involved, the confrontation appears to have stemmed from social media posts relating to the war in Iran and the political situation in the country. The two groups, reportedly consisting of six and five people respectively, met at a specific location to “settle their differences”. Under circumstances still being investigated, the situation escalated and led to a violent fight involving both gunfire and physical assault.
Police have statements from at least four participants identifying the first suspect as the person who fired the gun, naming him directly as someone they know. Attempts to locate the weapon used have so far been unsuccessful, despite searches at the suspect’s residence and at the scene.
Remand orders issued
Police initially requested an eight‑day remand for all suspects. Following agreement between investigators and the defence lawyer, remand for suspects 2 to 6 was reduced to four days.
Regarding the first suspect – the one alleged to have fired the shots – the defence objected to the eight‑day request, arguing that four days would be sufficient and that the case could not be separated because investigations concern all suspects collectively.
After hearing both sides, the Court ordered an eight‑day remand for the first suspect and four days for the remaining five.
