A six-day remand order was issued on Thursday by Limassol District Court against a 19-year-old and a 21-year-old, who were arrested as suspects in connection with a bomb explosion that occurred last Tuesday at a restaurant owned by a 40-year-old businessman in Limassol's castle area.

Arrest warrants were obtained against the suspects based on evidence from closed-circuit surveillance systems, as well as witness testimony regarding their alleged involvement in the case.

In a statement, the head of the Limassol CID, Costas Michael, said that “evidence has been evaluated and sufficient testimony has been secured to justify the arrest warrants against them”.

As heard in court, security cameras recorded the suspects’ movements, as well as a specific type of vehicle used to leave the scene and travel to the area where one of the suspects resides.

The 19-year-old was arrested on Wednesday upon his arrival at Limassol CID, where he was due to sign in as part of bail conditions for a separate case. He was accompanied by the 21-year-old, who fled the scene but was arrested a few hours later.

The vehicle has been seized for forensic examination, while a hoodie, similar to one worn by one of the perpetrators, was found inside.

Investigations by Limassol CID are ongoing to solve the case, which marks the third criminal act in recent times targeting property belonging to the same businessman.

It is recalled that, in relation to previous malicious acts against the businessman — who was a close associate of the murdered Stavros Demosthenous — police had proceeded with a number of arrests.
