A 30-year-old convicted inmate appeared before the Limassol District Court on Wednesday in connection with the ongoing investigation into the murder of Stavros Demosthenous. The man, currently serving a four-year prison sentence for drug-related offences, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon inside the Central Prisons.
The court ordered his eight-day remand, with the suspect's lawyer raising no objection to the police request for detention.
According to statements heard in court, another suspect also in custody, has implicated the 30-year-old in the case, specifically in relation to the motorbike allegedly used in the crime. In a written testimony, the witness claimed to have contacted the inmate, instructing him to purchase the motorbike and leave it at a designated location for someone else to collect.
Following his arrest, the 30-year-old expressed his wish to give a formal statement at a later time, specifically in the presence of his lawyer. That statement is expected to be taken today.
Police investigations into the case are ongoing. Authorities plan to collect a further 97 statements and conduct two additional searches. Investigators are also reviewing dozens of CCTV recordings from both Limassol and Nicosia.
The case is being treated comprehensively, with all suspects under investigation for all possible offences connected to the murder.
