Deposed earlier this year after a disciplinary process by the Church of Cyprus, former Bishop of Paphos, Tychikos, is now seeking recourse before the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople, which is reviewing his appeal against the decision that removed him from office.
Tychikos is appearing today, Friday October 17, before the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, following an invitation to present his case regarding the ruling of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus, which declared him deposed from the throne of the Metropolis of Paphos last May.
The Patriarchal Synod of the Ecumenical Throne is meeting in Constantinople from 16 to 18 October. The hearing for the former Paphos bishop has been scheduled for 11:30 a.m., according to Professor Panayiotis Lazaretos, a constitutional law expert from the University of Athens, who will accompany him.
Sources close to the former Metropolitan say that Tychikos is in good spirits and awaiting the Synod’s decision with composure and attentiveness.
The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate presided over by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, and composed of 12 other hierarchs.
The Synod’s decision is expected to be announced after the completion of its three-day session and following the hearing of Tychikos and his legal representative.
